Arctus Blog: A note on the software used for the Arctus Blog tag:blog.arctus.co.uk,2005:Typo Typo 2007-04-21T17:35:38-04:00 Adrian O'Connor adrian@arctus.co.uk urn:uuid:2f1fc64d-78ef-474b-90c4-00ecc6eccd26 2007-04-21T17:34:00-04:00 2007-04-21T17:35:38-04:00 A note on the software used for the Arctus Blog
When we first launched, the Arctus Blog was powered by a Ruby on Rails application written in-house. However, we soon discovered a pre-existing package called Typo, also written in Ruby and decided that, with small modification, would meet our needs nicely, saving us a lot of time and effort.

So far, Typo is serving us well. We have yet to experience any real spikes in traffic that have really tested the server, but we expect that Ruby’s caching will work very well indeed.

This article is primarily to acknowledge Typo, and also the template Sribbish upon which the screen you are looking at is originally based.

Because Typo is an open-source package, we would be happy to give back to the community any changes that we have made. If you like anything that you see on the Arctus blog, and would like to integrate the same functions on your own blog (you will need some experience of Ruby and already be running Typo though), please get in touch and we’ll be only too happy to help.
